Online Predators and Grooming
Online predators often lurk on websites were younger children tend to be, such as social media websites. The adult may try to act the same age and have similar interests through a fake profile in order to obtain the childs trust. Once a relationship has been established, the groomer will become sexually explicit.
Recieving unusual gifts or messages from someone they don't know.
Spending more time online and worried about time away from their phone.
Becoming secretive about their online activities from parents or other adults.
Arond 50% of children between the ages of 12-15 are vulnerable to being groomed and become victims of online sexual exploitation.
There is an estimated of 500,000 predators online everyday and about 89% of inappropriate messages are through messaging or online chatrooms.
Only 58% of parents reported having concerns about online threats from strangers.
