The most common strategies for transforming sentences in English
- Changing the stucture
- Using Synonyms
- Adding a hook
- Incorporating different perpectives
- Emphasizing different elemnts
- Using specific examples or evidence
- Changing the tone
CONDITIONALS
- Conditionals are used to speculate about what might happen, what might have happened, and what we would like to happen. In English, most sentences that use the conditional verb tense contain the term “if”.
- It is also possible to change a simple sentence into one using conditionals and giving it another meaning.
Changing the structure
O r i g i n a l: Reading regularly improves cognitive function.T r a n s f o r m a c i ó n: One thing that improves cognitive function is to read a lot.S e n t i d o: En esta oración se cambia totalmente la estructura, pues ahora se comienza por explicar la parte complementaria de la oración original y despues el principio de ella. C o n d i c i o n a l: If people were constantly reading, they would improve their cognitive function.
Using synonyms
O r i g i n a l: Reading regularly improves cognitive function.T r a n s f o r m a c i ó n: Reading a lot will emend and do your cognitive function good.S e n t i d o: En este caso se utiliza un sinonimo en la palabra "improve" por "emend", de esta manera la oración es de cierta manera lo mismo pero utilizando otra palabra con el mismo significado. C o n d i c i o n a l: If you read a lot, your cognitive function could be greatly improved.
Using specific examples:
O r i g i n a l: Reading regularly improves cognitive function.T r a n s f o r m a c i ó n: Reading at least 3 times a week is scientifically proven to improve cognitive function.S e n t i d o: En este caso al utilizar "scientifically" ya estoy dando un ejemplo específico que hace de la oración algo más creible. C o n d i c i o n a l: If you read 3 times a week or more, your cognitive functions may improve.
CHANGING THE TONE
O r i g i n a l: Reading regularly improves cognitive function.T r a n s f o r m a c i ó n: If you don´t read constantly your cognitive function will not improve!S e n t i d o: En este al utilizar el signo de admiración "!" ya se interpreta y se lee la oración de manera distinta, lo cuál cambia el tono de la misma. C o n d i c i o n a l: If you read constantly, your cognitive functions may improve!
ADDING A HOOK
O r i g i n a l: Reading regularly improves cognitive function.T r a n s f o r m a c i ó n: Did you know that reading consistently will make your cognitive function better?S e n t i d o: En este caso al volver la oración pregunta, le da un sentido diferente, ya que lo hace más interesante a la hora de leer. C o n d i c i o n a l: If reading constantly will emend cognitive function, we would be very smart from a young age.
EMPHASAZING
O r i g i n a l: Reading regularly improves cognitive function.T r a n s f o r m a c i ó n: Nowdays it is known that reading a lot is the best thing you can do for your cognitive function.S e n t i d o: En este caso se hace enfasis en que leer es lo mejor que puedes hacer, al decir "is the best" se llama la atención del lector y es el enfasis que la oración da.
