Artificial intelligence (AI) is a technology that allows computers to think and act in ways that are considered 'human-like' by processing information and making decisions based on what they learn or perceive.

Artificial Intelligence is becoming increasingly integrated into our lives, affecting how we live, work, and enjoy leisure activities, often without our explicit awareness.AI's advancement is leading to machines that can learn from their experiences and adapt their approaches to tasks. Efforts are even being made to teach robots about emotions.

Artificial Intelligence

AI is present in many everyday technologies, such as smartphones, video games, and shopping experiences. AI also finds applications in transportation, agriculture, and other sectors, showcasing its advanced capabilities and potential for future job roles.

In conclusion, AI offers significant benefits in terms of operational efficiency and innovation, but also entails significant risks and challenges. It is crucial for businesses to address these risks proactively, adopting policies and procedures that promote ethical and responsible use of AI. Only through a thorough understanding of the advantages, disadvantages, and ethical implications of AI can businesses maximize the benefits of this emerging technology while ensuring respect for fundamental ethical principles and protecting the interests of individuals and society as a whole.

Artificial Intelligence

Regarding Goal 7 “ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all,” AI is able to support the implementation of Smart Grids, which are smart power grids as they are able to optimize energy distribution, decentralize power plants and reduce voltage variations. As for Goal 13 “take urgent measures to combat climate change and its consequences,” AI is able to develop a high-precision digital model of the Earth to simulate and monitor the activity of natural phenomena and the impact of CO2 emissions.

Artificial Intelligence

BE THE CHANGE Sustainable Development Goal 9 focuses on addressing the challenges of equitable and enduring industrial growth, fostering innovation, and building essential infrastructure. Amidst a swiftly evolving global economy and widening disparities, it is crucial to ensure that growth is continuous and benefits are available to everyone. This includes establishing robust infrastructure such as transportation networks, digital communication systems, sanitation facilities, reliable electricity, and water supply, which are still lacking in numerous developing nations.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ADVANTAGES

AI offers several significant advantages for businesses and society as a whole. These advantages include the ability to optimize processes, save time, eliminate biases, and automate repetitive tasks, to name a few. Furthermore, AI reduces human error and risk by enabling machines to perform repetitive tasks accurately and reliably. The 24/7 availability of AI allows companies to offer uninterrupted services, enhancing the customer experience and increasing productivity. Additionally, AI is capable of making decisions impartially, based solely on data, thereby helping to ensure fairness in various contexts such as personnel selection or loan approval. Finally, AI facilitates the acquisition and analysis of large volumes of complex data, enabling businesses to gain valuable insights to improve their operations.

Artifical Intelligence can play a significant role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals because it offers innovative tools and approaches to address complex challenges related to sustainable development. For example, Artificial Intelligence can be used to analyze large amounts of data and identify useful patterns and trends in various sectors, such as healthcare, agriculture, energy and the environment. A.rtificial Intelligence can also improve resource planning and management, thereby helping to reduce waste and promoting efficiency and environmental sustainability. In addition, it can support the creation of innovative solutions to address inequalities. Artificial Intelligence can make a number of concrete contributions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Here are some examples: poverty reduction; health and well-being; quality education; clean and affordable energy; decent work and economic growth; industry, innovation and infrastructure; inequality reduction; and sustainable cities and communities.

In addition to practical disadvantages, the adoption of AI also raises important ethical issues. One of the main concerns revolves around consumer data privacy, as AI can collect and analyze personal data without individuals' informed consent. This raises questions about how to effectively protect consumers' privacy in an era of rapid AI evolution. Other ethical issues include the potential impact on human employment, legal responsibility for decisions made by AI, and the possible perpetuation of social biases through AI algorithms.

ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS

AI has already entered our daily lives, is constantly evolving, and presents challenges that require attention, such as ethics, transparency, security, and socioeconomic impact. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda (SDGs/SSGs) aim to end poverty, combat inequality, and achieve social and economic development; they also address crucial issues such as climate change and building peaceful societies by 2030.The synergy between AI and the Goals of the 2030 Agenda can bring about a positive shift in vision: from a vision that puts humans at the center to a vision that puts the planet, of which humans are a part, at the center.

The adoption of AI also comes with several disadvantages and challenges. Firstly, AI implementation can be extremely costly, with estimates indicating costs ranging from thousands to millions of dollars for businesses. Additionally, AI lacks the human ability to understand emotions and create creative solutions. This limitation can affect AI's ability to address complex problems innovatively. Moreover, AI may be subject to degradation over time, with machines becoming obsolete or malfunctioning if not properly maintained. At the same time, AI cannot improve with experience without human intervention, limiting its capacity for autonomous learning and adaptation. Furthermore, the widespread adoption of AI may lead to a reduction in jobs for humans, as AI can easily replace repetitive tasks previously performed by human workers.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE DISAVANTAGES

What essential services are generally lacking in the developing world? Worldwide 2.3 billion people lack access to basic sanitation and 2.6 billion people in developing countries do not have access to constant electricity. More than 4 billion people do not have access to Internet 90% of them are in the developing world What positive projection is made for renewable energy sectors? The renewable energy sectors currently employ more than 2.3 million people; the number could reach 20 million by 2030. What numbers highlight the different treatment of agricultural products in developing countries and high-income countries? In developing countries, barely 30% of agricultural products undergo industrial processing, compared to 98% in high-income countries.

Opinions on AI are divided; some see it as beneficial, while others have reservations. Recently, the NHS in England announced the establishment of an AI lab, supported by a £250 million government investment, to enhance AI's role in healthcare. AI is versatile, aiding in personalization in entertainment services like Netflix, making video games more challenging, and assisting in healthcare for better patient care and diagnosis.

The concept of AI dates back to 1956, with significant developments in machine learning and algorithms since the 1960s.

Current research focuses on 'machine perception,' equipping machines with sensors to interpret the world similarly to humans.
