F-1 Describe the BACB’s RBT supervision requirements and the role of RBTs in the service-delivery system.
Supervision Requirements
As an RBT, you must practice under a qualified RBT Supervisor's close, ongoing supervision... The purpose of ongoing supervision is to improve and maintain your behavior-analytic, professional, and ethical repertoires, and facilitate the delivery of high-quality services to clients. All activities must comply with the respective Codes. (RBT Handbook, 17)
Supervision requirements
You must obtain ongoing supervision for a minimum of 5% of the hours you spend providing behavior-analytic services each calendar month.
At least one of the two supervision sessions must be individual (i.e., no other RBTs or trainees present), but the other may occur in a small-group meeting.
Supervisor must be BCBA certified OR BCaBA certified CL or Trainer supervision will not qualify toward your 5% of hours.
Supervision must include at least two face-to-face, real-time contacts per month
Maintain supervision documentation for 7 years and be prepared to submit it, even for former RBTs.
Process
Implement Behavior Analytic services and implement Treatment Plans, working 1:1 with clients and recording accurate data.
Report details of session and relevant information to supervisor.
Interact with family on a frequent basis (if in home), develop rapport with client and family.
Support in behavior assessments facilitated by BCBA or BCaBA.

F-2 Respond appropriately to feedback and maintain or improve performance accordingly.
responding to feedback exercise
You are assigned a new supervisor on a case that you have worked on the past 2 years. The new supervisor provides you feedback on how you are running DTT. The feedback instructs you to run DTT differently than how you’ve been running it. What is the best way to respond to the situation?
A. Acknowledge the feedback but tell the supervisor you are going to keep running it the same way since it has been working so far. B. Ignore the feedback and continue to run it the way you’re running it. C. Attempt to implement the feedback, and then communicate with your supervisor if it isn’t working. D. Escalate this discrepancy to the RD.
Stakeholder: One that may be affected by or relevant caregivers/ professionals who interact with your client on a regular basis.
communicating with stakeholder;
Use person first language. Conversation is professional and respectful in nature. Transparency is key. Understand the supervisor makes the ultimate decision and implements any changes.
Professional boundaries
Just like we hold professional relationships at work, we must be professional with our clients and their families. It’s important to remember your role as an RBT, and that is that you are providing a professional service.
- Do not develop any relationship outside the professional service provider. (ex: romantic relationship, conduct business)
- To avoid dual relationships, keep conversation to professional topics.
- Do not speak in depth about personal issues. No more than enough to maintain a friendly, professional relationship. For instance, it’s ok to share you are stressed because of finals! Or that your cat kept you up at night.
- No gifts should be exchanged with a monetary value of over $10.
- DO NOT exchange social media with clients, caregivers, relatives, etc.
exercise
Your client's sessions take place during lunch time. The parents started to buy you lunch and requested you to eat it with their child during this time. You are aware of their cultural background and are unsure whether to accept the lunch or decline and how to do so. What do you think is the best way to handle this situation?
F-5 Maintain client dignity.
client dignity
Exercise
You usually work in home with your clients; however, you went to the office to sub on a case. Another RBT who previously worked with your current client asked about them using their full name. This RBT is asking how the family is, what is new with the family, and complained about the problem behavior that occurred with the client. What is an appropriate way to handle this situation?
