GUY FAWKES NIGHT

It's celebrated on 5 November each year in England, Scotland and Wales. Also known as Fireworks Night or Bonfire Night. This autumn tradition has been celebrated for the last 400 years.

WHO IS GUY FAWKES?

He was a man who attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London on 5 November 1605, but failed. The aim was to create a revolution to make the church Catholic again. A curius fact, The Guy Fawkes mask is one of the most famous masks in the world, because of the film V for Vendetta.

HOW IS GUY FAWKES NIGHT CELEBRATED TODAY?

In the past it was a tradition to burn effigies of Guy Fawkes at the stake, but today this custom is less common. Nowadays, fireworks displays are more common than bonfires. In the town of Lewes and Ottery St Mary's they celebrate this day in a special way.

JORVIK VIKING FESTIVAL

In the English city of York, one of the biggest Viking-themed festivals in Europe usually takes place in February. This event pays homage to the Viking history of the region. As during the 9th-10th centuries, York was controlled by the Vikings and during that time the city was called Jorvik.

HOW IS JORVIK VIKING FESTIVAL CELEBRATED?

During the festival, different activities, events, and exhibitions are held that allow visitors to experience and learn about Viking culture.

NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL

Notting Hill Carnival is a Caribbean festival which has been held in London at the end of August since 1966. The origin of this carnival was that Caribbean people wanted to show the British people that Caribbean immigrants are a peaceful and hard-working people.

It is the biggest street party in Europe.This carnival is known for its Caribbean theme:
