Discussion
Sharing of ideas, responding to questions and challenge from the teacher, and/or peers.
Activity designed for the Creative Writing and English Literature (BA) Hons programme.
Learning through discussion requires the learner to articulate their ideas and questions, and to challenge and respond to the ideas and questions from the teacher, and/or from their peers.
This activity was created in a web application called Mural. The use of Mural leverages visual collaboration and engagement to facilitate discussion and boost engagement.

Outline of task
The Hook:
Whether it's fiction or non-fiction, we've all travelled the world at some point in time through the captivating words of our favorite novels. Some will take you into the depths of the African jungles, and others plonk you right in the middle of the wide, empty ocean. It's often these words on paper that ignite our desire to see the world for real. (https://www.roughguides.com/articles/ten-great-literary-journeys/)
Activity:
- Pause for a moment and consider which of the many books or items of literature that you have read that have captivated or inspired your inner explorer and made you want to escape the date-to-day in pursuit of an adventure.
- Choose a title that you have read that explored scene setting in a way that has influenced your creative writing.
- Source a picture of the book cover and upload it to the 'Literary Journey bookshelf' within Mural.*
- Post a brief outine, sentence or quote to explain your choice along with your chosen book cover. Think about how the scene was set, the connections with the place or characters. What drew you in or sparked your curiosity. Was it the vivid sense of where and when events take place?
Self-reflection of your own literary choices and the works and writers that have taken you to new found places. This e-tivity will help with the 'reflections' section of your final assignment.
