Lisa Gherardini, real name of Monna Lisa, was the wife of Francesco Del Giocondo. In 1506, while she was going to Calabria with her husband, she had to stop in Lagonegro because she had an illness. She was probably struck by malaria or an infectious disease. She died in Lagonegro and she was buried there.
