Today we are going to learn about all the different climates we can find in Spain. In order to do that you will have in the next slide the map of Spain in which we can identify the areas that each climate take up. Read each one as many times as you need it.

OCEANIC CLIMATE

In the north:

• Cantabrian coast

• Galicia

• Western Pyrenees

Mild temperatures:

• Cool summers

• Mild winters

• Abundant throughout the whole year (small decrease in summer).

• Mountains helps the clouds coming from the Atlantic to collide and rain frequently.

Very abundant and varied thanks to rainfall:

• Hardwood forests

• Lots of ferns and moss

• Natural meadows, green all year

MOUNTAIN CLIMATE

Mountainous areas over 1,200 m above sea level:

• Pyrenees
• Cantabrian Mountains
• Iberian System
• Central System
• Betic Mountains

• Abundant during the whole year.

• Snow in winter.

VEGETATION

TEMPERATURE

Variable according to:

• Altitude (lower areas forests and in higher ones meadows)

• Orientation (sunny/south and shady/noth)

• Cold and long winters

• Short and cool summers

CONTINENTAL-MEDITERRANEAN CLIMATE

• Meseta

• Ebro Depression

• Inner Catalonia

• Andalusia

• Scarce, distributed between spring and autumn.

Depending on the altitude:

• Forests with oak and beech trees.
• Low herbs
• Aromatic herbs

• Warm in summer

MEDITERRANEAN CLIMATE

• Catalonia
• Valencia
• Balearic islands
• Andalusia
• Ceuta
• Melilla

• Very scarce.

VEGETATION

TEMPERATURE

• Coastal Mediterranean climate: mild winters and warm summers.

• Arid Mediterranean climate: soft in the litoral and extreme in the centre.

• No forests.

• Vegetation adapted to droughts.

• Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are the driest islands.
