What is a comparative?

We use comparative adjectives when we want to demosntrate the differences between objects, people, or ideas.

To describe people, objects and ideas we have adjectives. at the same time these adjectives can be positive, comparative and superlative.

Comparatives

Which fruit is sweeter, banana or Kiwi ? Sweeter is the comparative adjective

Rules to form Comparatives

More than 3 syllables add More

For 1 or 2 syllables add - er

tall- taller fast - faster smart- smarter

Intelligent--- More intelligent amazing--- more amazing interesting---- more interesting

Irregular adjectives

Crazy-- Crazier happy- Happier Busy-- Busier Cozy- Cozier Funny- Funnier Messy- Messier

Adjectives ending in Y- you must replace it with letter "i" and add - er.

There are some irregular adjectives which comparative form you must learn. good--- better bad---- worse far---- further

To use adjectives like tall, fat, big, we should duplicate the last letter and add the suffix " er" Big--- Bigger fat---fatter

Formula to form comparative sentences

Subject + The verb + Comparative adjective + The word THAN + the second object

Example: Bananas are sweeter than Kiwi.
