This is a motivational activity to encourage students to write legends in English. They are given the basic ingredients: characters, a setting and two tenses (past simple and past continuous). The rest is up to the students.

It's April 23rd: Book Day and St. George's Day!!! so we're going to write a legend... It's going to be a legend about a dragon, a knight and a fantastic background - Ingredients for the best legend: Characters: a brave knight, a naughty dragon, a spear and a horse for the knight, a shield for defence, a castle, a spooky cave, lots of luck for the knight... and anything you want to add. Language use: expressions for legends: once upon a time, use of the past simple and the past continuous, connectors of sequence (firstly, secondly, thirdly, eventually, last but not least , in the end...) Once you have created your legend, get in groups of 4 and write a new one mixing details from the stories of all the students. You will need to reach an agreement as to what to include and finally, you will present your legend to the class. We will vote for the best legend. Good luck!!!
