Subnautica

Summary

Subnautica is a game about survival. You crash land on an alien planet that is completely covered by water. You have nothing to start with except a little bit of food and water. Everything you need to use for survival is around you on the ocean planet. As you survive on this planet you can build habitats or bases to help you collect new resources to help you along your journey to discover the secrets buried deep under the surface.

Base Building

Base Building is essential to play this game effectively. Throughout your journey you will come across multiple plants, animals, and shipwrecks that you can harvest to build a base so that you can live comfortably on this planet. Many resources are abundant right under the surface but the more rare materials like diamonds and rubies you will find deeper. To get to these deeper resources you will need a base so that you can start crafting items.

Exploration is probably the most important part of this game. You start the game off in the Shallows but as you get more confident and get more equipment you can venture further out and deeper down. There are many biomes that you will explore throughout your playthrough ranging from the safe Shallows to the hostile inactive lava zone. How slow you want to explore is up to you but do be mindful you have a limited supply of oxygen and if you run out it is Game Over.

Exploration

Survival

Survival on this planet is tough. You start off with limited resources and have to figure out what you need to survive. Crafting a survival knife is an important step to getting everything you need and defending yourself from creatures on this planet. Using your knife you are able to start getting food, making your survival rate go up. Your knife is going to be an essential tool as you progress through the game.

Creatures

Subnautica has plenty of creatures, some being docile while a few are hostile. The docile creatures can be used as a food source and can help you survive, on the other hand the hostile creatures will try to eat you and will make your life difficult while you explore. Some of the hostile creatures are classified as Leviathans, meaning they are giant creatures. Not all Leviathans try to harm you but the ones that do, make sure you stay clear of those.

Conclusion

In conclusion this is an amazing game to play. It lets you explore, survive, and build on a beautifully designed planet.​ I have played over hundreds of hours in this game just exploring and building to my heart's content and I never get bored of this game. The developers of this game have made a second game for this series and it is just as beautiful as the first game. Subnautica is one of my favorite games because the developers used gamers like me to test the game and once the finished game was released they credited the gamers and thanked them in the credits for their contribution to the game. I would recommend playing this game if you love survival or exploration games. This game has been at the top of my favorites since I first started playing it.
