In this session, we will look at the essential underpinning aspects that EVC's and Senior Leaders should ensure are in place in order to manage risk effectively on their school's educational visits
Risk Management 101
In this workshop, you’ll review and rethink the opportunities you currently offer beyond the classroom. You’ll develop actions to ensure your learning outside the classroom is meaningful, progressive and has impact on your students’ attainment and personal development, supporting them to thrive.
Learning Beyond – supporting your students to thrive
Discussion about widening access to outdoor and adventure education, looking at how to break barriers to participation in educational visits and outdoor education. Reflecting on what's happening across the sector to support greater inclusion and asking: what role do schools have in this and what barriers do they face?
PANEL: Allies and advocates - widening access to outdoor and adventure education
This session takes a practical approach to how schools can ensure effective planning, communication and strategy when it comes to ensuring affordable visits for all students. This session will look at gathering information about the visits you run within schools and how to ensure effective communication with key stakeholders. We will take time to look at current grants and funding opportunities open for schools, as well as top tips on how to apply for grants.

Pat will take you through a step-by step guide to help you create a programme that excites as well as delivering educationally.
Building progression into outdoor learning school programmes
Q&A exploring progress and challenges related to inclusion for children and young people in outdoor learning/educational visits. We'll ask what does success look like? And what can schools and others do to help achieve it?
PANEL Q&A:What does inclusion look like in educational visits?
Interactive workshop on the Pakeman Primary cohort, their disadvantage, how it affects them and their opportunity. What Pakeman Primary does for them on their ‘School Journey’ and what advice/actions that others can take.
No limits - providing experiences of a lifetime for disadvantaged children and young people
Guidance as to the legal obligations to be considered by schools organising educational and sports trips in the UK and overseas.
Educational visits: understanding your legal responsibilities
How systems like EVOLVE support the risk management and operational management of school visits (and why that matters). The workshop will include general data about EVOLVE on educational visits and also deep dive into what schools can learn from their data and how EVOLVE can help them use it.
Harnessing (the power of) EVOLVE…
All children, no matter what their level of ability, should be given the opportunity to experience a residential trip during their time at school. In this practical workshop we will explore the various barriers to participation for disabled children accessing school residentials and the things we can do to ensure everyone can get involved. From this workshop you’ll go away with a greater understanding of how to overcome the barriers to participation and what you should expect from a residential visit to ensure it meets the needs of all young people.
Top quality or tokenistic: How we ensure inclusive residentials are truly inclusive for everyone.
We will focus on the three types of supervision for educational visits, exploring various scenarios to identify potential challenges. Through activities and discussions, we will determine appropriate measures that maintain safety while preserving the educational benefits.
Effective Supervision on Educational Visits
Discussion around the barriers to educational visits/outdoor learning and what is being done/ needs to be done to enable all children and young people to access these important experiences. We'd like to conclude on a positive note that they are NOT at risk(!) while recognising what support/ change is needed, including what schools can do.
PANEL: Is the future of educational visits at risk?
A look at how we can use our school site to enhance the experience students and staff have on offsite residential activity. Exploring extending the school day, sleepovers on site (or similar low/no cost venues) to school camps. From the initial ideas, gaining approvals, preparing the students (and parents), choosing providers, feeling confident as an EVC, and assessing the competence of our own staff to lead them. The session will start with a short presentation, followed by facilitated discussions in small groups on how and if this is something you could take away and explore further. The presenter would also welcome anyone in the session who would like to share their own personal experiences positive experiences of an on school residential.
