The first humans arrived in the Iberian Peninsula about 1.2 million years ago.The oldest humans remains in spain are in Atapuerca,Burgos. Other archaelogical sities on the Iberian Peninsula from thise age are:Altamira cave(Cantabria),Tito Bustillo cave(Asturias),La Pileta cave(Malaga),La Vallorta cave(Castellon).

During this period, humans began to use metal tools and they became specialised in different jobs. Some important archeological sites from this age are: Los Millares (Almeria), castro de Santa Tecla (Pontevedra), Motilla del Azuer (Ciudad Real).

  • They were good navigators and had the most advanced boat.
  • They were skilled metal and glass workers.

Until approximately 1100 BC many different tribes lived on the Iberian Peninsula.Then,other Mediterranean cultures began establishing colonies on the coasts.they were interested in the Peninsula´s location.the location made it easy to control trade and commerce at sea.They were also interested in all the natural resouces of the Peninsula,such as minerals.

The Ancient Greeks also came froom the east of the Mediterranean Sea(modern-day Greece).They founded Rhode(Rosa) and Emporion(Ampurias).
