The intent of our PSHE, RSE and SMSC curriculum is to deliver purposeful, accessible lessons to all of our children so that they can learn more, remember more and understand more. At Cedar, we intend our SMSC provision to develop open and consistent relationships between the children and adults so that they treat people and property with respect. Our curriculum encourages the children to use a range of strategies (including thinking skills) to develop a sense of belonging and high self-esteem. We want our children to be empathetic, reflective, have high aspirations for themselves and the ability to develop a growth mindset to enable them to be their best selves. PSHE teaches our children to become healthy, independent, socially responsible citizens in a diverse society. Our children embrace debating about local and global issues that are taught through Picture News, which enables them to demonstrate their understanding of our British Values. We hope that our curriculum supports our children to challenge stereotypes and learn to argue and defend a point of view appropriately. Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) is taught through our ‘relationship’ topics in PSHE. RSE is lifelong learning about relationships, emotions, looking after ourselves, different families, sex and sexuality. At Cedar, we focus on teaching the characteristics of positive relationships, understanding personal space and boundaries, showing respect and understanding the differences between appropriate and inappropriate contact. We want to create confident, determined, resilient, well-rounded children who are able to play a positive and successful role in society. We intend for our children to compete equally with their peers in a world beyond school life.
