ORIGINS

The Olympic Games were born in Greece. The first edition was in 776 B.C. in the sacred city Olympia to honor Zeus. They took place every 4 years.

THE MODERN ERA

After 1500 years of absence, the Olympic Games were revived in 1896 thanks to Pierre de Coubertin.

In 1894, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was established: it is composed of representatives of all participating nations

The five intertwined circles

represent the five continents of the world: Africa, Asia, America, Europe and Oceania.
