I find it very interesting that foreground of this piece does not contain any content beyond the columns and entryway to the temple. This creates a contained sense of interior space for the setting; invites the viewer into the scene in the same specific way that one of the characters would enter it, thus making the scene more relatable to the viewer; and elegantly uses the two columns to divide the scene into a tritpych-esque format that would presumably match the architectural style of the rest of the church.
