PROGRAM DIRECTOR

"My favorite memory was when we wanted to do this walk and talk segment at the football game, so we filmed all night at the football game. By the time the football game was over, we all came back to the room with [KCBY adviser Irma Kennedy.] We wound up staying there until past midnight editing the show, so we could export it and get it ready for the show the next morning. I was so tired, but it was so fun. Mrs. K got us a table full of fajitas from Rosa's, and we sat there at midnight eating fajitas."

Samantha Handshy

SENIOR PRODUCER

"KCBY definitely impacted every aspect of my life. The confidence I've gained over the past three years in being able to make my voice heard has changed. I used to get so nervous and now I'll talk to anyone, and that's such a good life skill. I would tell people in KCBY to jump right in. We all want you to love it. You’re not bugging anyone with your questions. Just take that leap of faith and let yourself enjoy it. Stick with KCBY, because it has been the biggest blessing in my life."

Archis Ukidwe

PROGRAM DIRECTOR

"One of my favorite memories this year was after the Rangers won the World Series. Me, [Coppell High School senior] Bunker Harris and Ruma Yi went to Arlington. We got film of the championship parade, and we interviewed people. It was a great time. Going to all the games last year really helped me grow in time management and problem solving. Mrs. K recently did a workshop where we emailed her one of the first emails we sent out in KCBY and a recent email we sent out. You can see the difference in how you talk to people."

KCBY seniors turning camera to new scenes

KCBY-TV is the student-run broadcast program at Coppell High School that has been producing shows since 1995. The KCBY-TV seniors reflect on how their time in the program has provided them with an outlet to explore their passions and make valuable memories.

Rachel Chang

SENIOR PRODUCER

"KCBY was unlike any other class I'd ever taken because it's just so hands-on. You get so much experience working with cameras and seeing what it would be like actually working in the field. I think a lot of the leadership skills have helped me. I used to be really scared of public speaking and being on camera, but now I have to anchor on camera and be used to that."

Isaac Mercado

PROGRAM DIRECTOR

"In addition to technical skills, I’ve learned how to conduct interviews, write scripts, put segments together and get the opportunity to make creative projects. KCBY is a place where you can take your journalism passion to the next level with all our equipment and connections. But, if you don’t put yourself out there, nothing will happen."
