What is the difference?
Mutterschutzlohn vs. Mutterschaftsgeld
Mutterschutzlohn
Your employer pays the Mutterschutzlohn (maternity pay) if you are not allowed to work due to an employment ban.
The Mutterschutzlohn corresponds to the average gross salary of the last 3 months before the pregnancy.
Mutterschaftsgeld
During maternity leave the health insurance pays the Mutterschaftsgeld (maternity benefits) for people with statutory coverage.
If your average net pay per day is more than 13 euros, your employer pays for an additional contribution, called Arbeitgeberzuschuss.
