1 THE STRUCTURE
The passive form is formed by the verb be + past participle + complement of agent:-Affirmative form: The gift is opened by Adelaide. -Negative form: The gift isn’t opened by Adelaide. -Interrogative form and short answers: Is the gift opened by Adelaide? Yes, it is/No, it isn’t.
OTHER VERBAL FORM
will: subject + will + be + past participle; Ex: The gift will be opened by Adelaide. be going to: subject + am/is/are + going to be + past participle; Ex: The gift is going to be opened by Adelaide. infinitive present: to be + past participle; Ex: The gift needs to be opened by Adelaide.
3. MODAL VERBS
The passive form of the modal verbs is formed by:subject + modal verb + be + past participle; Can: it is used to express a possibility, a prohibition or a capability; Ex: The gift can be opened by Adelaide. Could: it is used to express a possibility; Ex: The gift could be opened by Adelaide.
Should: it is used to express an advice or an ideal situation; Ex: The gift should be opened by Adelaide. Must: it is used to express an obligation or a prohibition; Ex: The gift must be opened by Adelaide. Have to: it is used to express an obligation or a lack of need; Ex: The gift has to be opened by Adelaide. Need: it is used to express a necessity or a lack of need; Ex: The gift needs to be opened by Adelaide.
