What we will do today?

Welcome

Konnichiwa, mina-san! Welcome to our special virtual gathering today. As we come together, it's not just to celebrate your incredible journey through Japanese classes 1 and 2, but also to forge deeper connections among all of you. In addition to our celebrations, we have the wonderful opportunity to welcome our new teacher who will guide us through Japanese 2 next year. This is a chance for all of us to get acquainted, ask questions, and begin our journey together.

I'm Tika Sensei 👋 If you're in my Japanese 1 class this year, you probably already know me! I was born and raised on the beautiful island of Bali, Indonesia 🌴 I'm an island girl now living in a state with no beaches and waaay too much winter ❄️ (send help). From 2017 to 2021, I lived in Japan, then made the big move to the U.S. (first Chicago for a year and now I’m here in Pennsylvania). I have two cats and one dog. One of my cats actually came with me all the way from Okinawa, Japan. He’s my little island buddy 🐱🌺 Fun fact: I speak four languages (five if you count Malay!), and I’m currently learning Korean, but I'm still a beginner, but I'm trying! Next year, I’ll be teaching Japanese 1 again (yay!) and also helping out Japanese 3 and 4 students who might need a little extra support as the teacher of record. In class, I love using fun tools like Quizizz, Padlet, Genial.ly, and GimKit to keep things interesting. Since English isn’t my first language, I sometimes ask my students for help with tricky words. And yes… there are three words I always avoid saying in class: “Beach,” “Sheets,” and “Seat.” Just ask my Japanese 1 students why and they’ll tell you the story (and probably still be laughing) 🤣

Stella Sensei

こんにちは! Stella Senseiです。 This is my second year teaching Japanese 1 at CCA. I moved around several times throughout my life, which is why I have a passion for different cultures, languages and people. Although I was technically born in California, we moved to Hawaii when I was a couple of months old. I lived in Hawaii until we moved to Tokyo, Japan when I was 10 years old. I loved watching Japanese television and soon became bilingual at that time. Eventually, we moved back to the states when I was 16 years old. Since I was a student in junior high, I have been teaching English as a Second Language or tutoring classmates in Japanese. I love introducing American and Japanese culture, which lives in my heart. When I am not surrounding myself with culture, then you can find me critiquing as many movies as I can, watching anime or playing games with my family. I bought my first Nintendo Famicon when I was 11 years old. My game collection has grown ever since. In 2002, I moved to Pennsylvania with my husband. He is a Computer Professor at Shippensburg University, with a specialty in game development. We have a daughter, who is currently a student at Ship. She will be transferring next year to PennWest/Edinboro to work on her degree in 2D digital art. I have really enjoyed getting to know many of you this year. I hope you continue to explore Japan and many of the topics we discussed either in class or in Nihongo Cafe. Next year, I will be teaching Japanese 1. Feel free to send me a message throughout the year. I would love to hear from you.

Michiyo Sensei

こんにちは (Ko n ni chi wa)! I am Michiyo Sensei. I am a new Japanese teacher at CCA. よろしくおねがいします。 (Yo ro shi ku o ne ga i shi ma su.) Nice to meet you. I will be teaching Japanese 2 next school year. I am originally from Nagano, Japan. Currently, I live in Lancaster, PA, which is famous for its Amish community. The Amish refer to non-Amish people as "English man." Therefore, I am "a Japanese English man." One of my favorite activities is going to a Chinese and Japanese buffet in Lancaster and enjoying a large meal. Additionally, I like to visit Shady Maple!
