Global Framework on Chemicals

Developed by UNSSC based on the Common Approach to Pollution, 2023.

Plastic Resolution

More than 175 countries endorsed a resolution at the UN Environment Assembly to create a legally binding agreement by 2024 to end plastic pollution. This resolution establishes the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution to develop the agreement that addresses the full life cycle of plastic, including its production, design, and disposal.

Agenda 2030

SDGs 3, 6, 11, 12, and 14 provide a comprehensive framework for addressing water, air, and soil pollution, recognizing their interconnectedness and the need for integrated solutions to ensure a sustainable and healthy future for all.

UN System Common Approach to Pollution

UN System agreed upon the Common Approach to Pollution, emphasizing mainstreaming pollution prevention and reduction into programs and operations. Implementation Plan for the Common Approach is set to be developed by UN entities.

Implementation Plan for Ministerial Declaration

Implementation Plan identified as a key tool for realizing the goals of the Ministerial Declaration, outlining action areas including knowledge, implementation, infrastructure, awareness, and leadership in transitioning towards a pollution-free planet.

Global Framework on Chemicals

This framework was adopted at the 5th International Conference on Chemicals Management in Bonn in 2023. It envisions a planet free of harm from chemical and waste where industry and private sectors are strategic actors to foster innovation, move towards sustainable business models and drive change.

Ministerial Declaration: Towards a Pollution-Free Planet

The third session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) highlighted pollution as a top global concern, issuing a Ministerial Declaration "Towards a Pollution-Free Planet" and calling for the development of an Implementation Plan.

Consultative Process on a Pollution-Free Planet

Senior Officials of the UN Environment Management Group (EMG) decided to establish a Consultative Process on a pollution-free planet, aiming to prepare a UN System Common Approach. A mapping exercise reviewed current UN activities related to pollution.
