TECHNOLOGY
To improve acute neurological care in rural areas of north-eastern Germany through the use of telemedicine, by continuous knowledge transfer to all professional groups involved in the care of acute neurological patients in regional hospitals through continuous training and the introduction of standardised processes.
PATIENT
A MEYDOC-XL (VIMED ® TELEDOC) mobile telemedicine system is used , which can be used as a medical device in close proximity to the patient.
ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAM
The availability of EEG can be guaranteed 24 hours a day by using so-called dry electrode EEG caps (ANT Neuro, Waveguard Touch).
The EEG obtained is transmitted telemedically via the above-mentioned terminals and evaluated by the neurological teleconsulting physician on his or her desktop system.
The project Acute Neurological Care in Northeast Germany with Telemedical Support (ANNOTeM)
was launched in 2017 with financial support from the innovation fund
Teleneurology makes it possible to perform a neurological examination remotely using two-way videoconferencing technology. Together with digital transmission of cross-sectional brain images, it enables reliable neurological findings to be recorded and interpreted. and thus offers a large number of patients access to neurological expertise that would otherwise be denied to them.

o The consultation service is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by a full-time doctor.
o The patient is examined via videoconference together with the doctor on site. In addition, there is a connection to the imaging data systems of the regional partner hospitals. In this way, computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images can be sent to a central picture archiving and communication system (PACS), which is accessible from the teleneurology centres.
o The data transfer in ANNOTeM takes place as a point-to-point connection between the respective active neurocentres and the regional cooperation hospitals.
o Finally, a teleconsultation report is sent electronically from the centre to the peripheral clinic and stored there (on secure servers with restricted access).
SPECIALIST
A fixed MEYDOC-XL (VIMED ® DOC) workstation is used which allows the neurologist at the centre to quickly and securely retrieve all the information about the patient that is important for his decisions and, using a three-monitor system, to view it simultaneously; and thus to generate the medical history and assess the patient's condition together with the doctor on site according to the symptoms experienced.
