From the documentary/movie ''Seaspiracy'' by Ali Tabrizi.
Sarah LE CORRE
Introduction
Ali Tabrizi is a british filmmaker obsessed with ocean, ocean wildlife, wales, dolphins... He was 22 years old when he decides to make a movie about his passion but in fact, this has change his vision forever.
TOPICS:
- human impacts on marine life
- over-fishing
- over-consumption of sea products
- hidden side of the marine industry.
What suprised you the most ?
Dolphins killed next the French coast.
First of all, I did not know that there were dolphins in the French rivera. In the Atlantic ocean, many of them are caught in fishing nets every year, between 8,000 and 11,000 on all the coast. This is very sad and I’m disappointed that this secret was hidden because France is a country where freedom of the press is very important
Japan is still praticing dolphins hunting
Japan is a very developed country and I didn't thought that they were still fishing dolphins in cities like Taiji. But the most suprising element is the fact that Ali and his sister are tracked everywhere they goes in thistown. I thought Japan was more free and transparent about theirs methods.
What is the solution for the fishing industry ?
- Fishing nets make up 46% of the Great Pacific garbage patch.
National Geographic rate : A 2018 study found that synthetic fishing nets made up nearly half the mass of the Great Pacific Garbage.
- The ocean will be empty of fish by 2048
Fish & Fisheries Lab rate : scientific data indicate that 73% of Australia’s fish stocks are not declining or likely to decline.
- Around 100 million sharks are killed each year across the globe,
Science Direct rate : All the major fishing countries use destructive fishing practices that result in the killing of up to 100 million sharks every year.

Solutions :
- Being more transparent about their fishing methods to allow customers to choose and consume mindfully.
- Employ more inspectors for better management of fishing conditions and better transparency for the label.
- Impose restrictions and have trusted inspectors to verify their compliance with companies.
- Ensure that ecologist and advocacy news media are not funded by shareholders in the marine industry.
