Building a Museum Ecosystem Display PBL
Assignment Summary
The objective of this PBL is to create a captivating museum display that highlights the interactions between organisms and their environments while showing how those organisms are classified into domains and kingdoms and the characteristics that allow them to interact with living and nonliving parts of their ecosystem.
Jobs/Roles for each team member
1. Museum Display Director
Manages the creation of the display, gathers supplies, researches how it should look and what organisms live there.
2. Museum Education Specialist
Creates the slide show and makes the presentation explaining the ecosystem, community, and featured population
3. Ecologist
Creates a chart, infographic, or drawing that summarizes the impact of the various factors that affect the organisms in the ecosystem. This can be done on a slide or a poster.
4. Biologist
Creates character cards for each organism in the ecosystem, with picture on one side and characteristics on the other
Must haves...
Slide show with at least 4 slides but up to 10 max.
Some kind of ecosystem display - visually pleasing and somewhat accurate
No real organisms! I have cardboard, and construction paper - bring your imagination
6-12 Character cards featuring at least 1 prokaryotic organism, protist, fungi, and plant and 2 animals - more is better.
You can create this ecosystem with a cardboard box, pipe cleaners and construction paper
Infographic or chart about interactions in the ecosystem and the biotic or abiotic factors that affect it.
Team work & collaboration
Research the ecosystem to learn which organisms can be included in the community, feature one population, and teach us about how it interacts within the environment.
you may also feature how human impact or pollution affects the ecosystem
Characteristics: prokaryote or eukaryote, unicellular or multicellular, autotrophic or heterotrophic, asexual or sexual. What is its niche, What would happen without it, or with too many?
Use pictures from magazines and old toys, you don't have to make any big purchases, it should be visibly pleasing and somewhat acurate.
