How do I write a detailed setting?
How do I outline my memoir?
Tips for Describing a Setting
- Think about your senses (see, smell, hear, taste, touch). What do each of them feel about this place?
- Think about the emotions the character (aka you) has while they are there - emotions will color how you view a place
- Think about the time of day - how does that change your perception of a place?
By thinking about these, you are then able to turn those details into figurative language - which will then help your setting come alive!
