Documenting

Understand the process

Thorough and accurate records of employee conduct, discussions, and behaviors can be imperative should allegations be made against the company.

If an employee brings forward a challenge, like a medical issue or a complaint such as harassment or discrimination you should understand the mechanism for the process. The process is explained in the Employee Handbook.

Issue spot proactively

Give honest feedback

If you see employee misconduct or underperformance, take the necessary action by having a documented discussion with the employee and/or alerting your HRBP.

Although confrontation and giving negative feedback can be difficult, failure to convey accurate reviews can create difficulties when later seeking to terminate an employee.

Recognize what types of behavior are unacceptable in the workplace

Treat everyone with respect

Our Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct capture these sentiments and encourage inclusivity and caution that no decisions should ever be made based on an employee’s race, gender, ethnicity, age, or any other protected class.

Improper behavior can be obvious, such as violence and the use of derogatory terms. However, other instances, such as seemingly harmless banter, can cross the line into inappropriate and actionable behavior.

Practice Accountability

Comprehend all parts of the Employee Handbook:

Hold your team (and yourself) accountable for company training:

The handbook contains the policies and procedures that both you and your employees are responsible for, including the proper channels for reporting incidents and our equal employment messages.

Training modules, such as this one, are imperative to ensuring proper manager and employee conduct, as well as fostering a productive work environment.
