Education
About me
I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, graduating from Maryvale High School in 1991. While working full time, I pursued higher education and graduated from the University of Arizona in 1997. Shortly after, I enlisted in the US Army, beginning my journey with basic training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina and advanced training at Fort Meade, Maryland, as a Public Affairs Specialist. During my military career, I served as a photojournalist and section editor for a weekly newspaper at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, focusing on soldier readiness issues. My next assignment took me to the 1st Infantry Division in Germany, where I was the editor of a monthly magazine. Duty First. I was US Army Photojournalist of the Year, US Army Top Magazine editor, and won various other awards for photojournalism. I also expanded my skills in multimedia, creating video and web content, and covered major newsworthy events. I deployed to Kosovo and was on active duty during the events of 9/11. In 2002, I transitioned to civilian life upon becoming a mother. Returning to Phoenix after a decade, I embarked on a teaching career. I spent eight years teaching English Language Arts in Dysart Unified School District before moving to Career and Technical Education. For six years, I taught Media Productions, 3D Animation, and Graphic Design at Boulder Creek High School, where both my children graduated. Currently, my son, who is also an Army veteran, is studying Geology and my daughter is serving as a Navy Corpsman in Cryptology. I am thrilled to begin my second year at Sandra Day O'Connor High School. I look forward to getting to know each student and helping them to create the future they want.
