Leadership Team Meetings
13th May Week 5 - 2024
Term 2
WHAT IS CFD?
Community Focus Day commonly shortened to CFD, is a day set on raising funds for a chosen charity. This charity is then promoted through a various mean to attain funds, common activities which include sausage sizzle, chocolate toss, and specialised activities as seen from Term 1 CFD. Why do we host CFD? To raise awareness about a certain cause or issue that our school community as a whole can contribute to. We believe this is greatly important too as it will bring the school together more closely. CFD's are all planned by leadership team to choosing the charity, planning the activities and organising the plan obviously everything run by and approved by the HOH and AP team. In Term 1, We supported the Dylan Alcott Foundation in order to rasie awareness and funding into disability in sports. We raised approx $1700. Whilst doing an amazing job there are a couple changes we will be making in the future to better organise CFD.
2. CFD
INDIGENOUS LITERACY FOUNDATION (ILF)
The Indigenous Literacy Foundation is a national charity working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander remote Communities across Australia. They are Community-led, responding to requests from remote Communities for culturally relevant books, including early learning board books, resources, and programs to support Communities to create and publish their stories in languages of their choice.
3. Objectives
Activity 2 - Art Competition
Activity 1 - Year 7 Story time
This activity is a sub activity that will happen within classes on the day or during the week. What will happen is that teachers will have 10-20mins to read a storytime book and explain the significane of respecting First Nations culture - Sorry Day, Reconciliation week, Invasion day etc. Things that need to happen:
- Organise a write up to send to Mrs Doquile
- Work with Mrs Simpson to get a box of Storytime books for the english teachers.
- Sheet with instructions for Yr7 English teachers participating ( could possibly get a video playing by the ILF
- Help with historic artwork set up on the Diversity and Inclusion board
- Make sure everything is accessible for english teachers on the day that they wish to do it
This activity involves an arts competition - colouring competition with various different types of colouring sheets. It is a paid event however there will be a prize for the winner. Those in this group can sort out who wins. Things that need to happen:
- Organise a space for the competition (library, senior study, outside library etc.)
- Get colouring sheets - HAVE to be aboriginal art related
- Get arts supplies sorted out - Talk to arts teacher
- Talk to HOH to get prize sorted out ( Canteen voucher, chocolate, lollies etc.)
- Discuss how you will control the event (arts supplies should NOT go missing, how will u decide winner etc.)
3. Objectives
Activity 4 - Seth Nolan Talk
Activity 3 - Science Show
This activity involves a science show in the science rooms (E8 maybe) demonstrating Indigenous science or really general science experiments that everyone loves to see. This will run at lunch either on Friday or open to another day that week to separate the chaos on the day. But if possible get it to be on Friday! Things that need to happen:
- Main contact with Mrs Westmore and Mrs Schulz to discuss ideas of potential experiments you could do. If stuck you can talk to Mr Message or Mr Pearson as they are part of Reconcilliaton Party, they can help with simple ideas for the science department to use.
- Paid event so need money collection to watch and participate.
- Regulate crowd - dont want people mucking around especially if experiments are dangerous a little.
- Once finalised discuss with Science teachers what support they need. You as leaders should regulate the crowd and collect the donations.
Seth Nolan, who is our Koorie Engagement Support Officer, is coming in and discussng about the importance of preserving culture. This is open to those who are interested. This will run P4 on the day most probably in the FLC. Things that need to happen:
- House Captains will mostly be in contact with Seth Nolan
- Put out the survey on every single year level team page for expression of interest (it has been written just need to be finalised with Mr Stevens in terms of using the FLC)
- Us leaders ALL are highly encouraged to participate. Especially all Juniors who should be there!
- Not paid - but think about questions you might want to ask and make a doc or word with questions (any questions add them to the form), this is a great opportunity to ask how can we as a school continue to preserve culture and respect and close the gap?
3. Objectives
Activity 6 - Chocolate Toss
Activity 5 - Sausage Sizzle
The usual star of CFD's - the one and only Sausage Sizzle. Sausage Sizzle is run at lunch time. This is a senior run activity (sorry juniors). Key thing is that this activity can become quite hectic!! And involves a lot of money and food safety measures, hence only seniors are allowed. Things that need to happen:
- Order of sausages - vegan sausages, beef sausages - talk to Mr Shannon
- Get money box from General Office + eftpos machine
- Set up tables outside of library
- Check with HOH if yr11 or 12 VM Class have food handling safety certificate so they can cook sauages - NO leaders should be cooking - if no then get staff to do - Stevo, Darren, Shannon whoever is willing to help with cooking.
- Leaders will be handling the money and handing out the sausages
Another star of CFD, Chocolate toss is an activity students participate to earn a block of chocolate. Obviously it is a paid event and runs every CFD. Things that need to happen:
- Organise the trolley that the chocolate toss happens on with Darren (Maintenance Guy)
- Order chocolates with HOH - dont need more than 10-12
- On the day make sure there are enough of you to regulate the chocolate toss - money collection and chocolate bars on the day are evenly distributed.
- Money box for chocolate toss or something to collect cash.
7. State of the issue
BUT THE MAIN ACT: ADVERTISING!!
However, to tie the entire day together..the most important thing to do for CFD is Advertising!! Advertising allows everyone to be informed that CFD is running. That it will be an out of uniform day (gold coin donation). There are multiple ways to advertise however it is also a crucial part of CFD to become successful, hence it should be done the best out of all. A couple ways to Advertise:
Posters and Visuals around the school.
Teams post and compass notification - can put it up as a Compass event
Talk to classes
