1. Choose a Topic

Topic Options:

  • An animal
  • A place to visit
  • An event (example: World War I)
  • A cause you are passionate about (example: reducing climate change)

2. Focus

Choose one thing about your topic to focus on. For example, if you choose to write about an animal you would want to focus on something specific such as their diet or where they live.

3. Where to Get Info From

Find an electronic source. This could be a:

  • Trustworthy website (look for .edu, .gov, .org at the end of the websites URL)
  • Apps
  • Documentaries
  • e-books

4. Cite Your Source

It is important to keep track of where you get your information from. Make a list of the sources you got information from 1. Name the source 2. Copy and paste the URL link underneath the sources name 3. Use the enter key to skip a line between sources You can find an example of how this should look on the left.

5. Create the Title & Byline

1.. Create the title 2. Type the byline How to Format 1. Center the Title and use a larger font like 16. 2. Skip a line before typing your byline by pressing the Enter key two times. Use a smaller font like 12. Click the yellow plus sign below for an example.

6. Create the Intro Paragraph

Introduce your topic in 2-3 sentences. The last sentence should tell us what you are going to write about or it can be a question to leave the readers curious. How to Format 1. Skip 2 lines and begin your lead paragraph. 2. Indent the first line of each paragraph by pressing the “Tab” key. 3. Skip a line between each paragraph by pressing the “Enter” key 2 times. 7. Create the Body Paragraph

The body paragraph is where you will explain interesting facts about your topic in your own words. How to Format

  • Need to be at least 3-5 sentences long.
  • Font size should be 12

8. Create the Conclusion Paragraph

This should be 2-3 sentences long. This is where you will wrap up your topic. Include one or two of these:

  • Summarize the topic
  • Comment on the topic
  • Leave the reader with a question to think about

9. Proofread Your Article

After you finish typing your article follow the checklist below: 1. Read through your article: Does it make sense? Are there any typing errors? 2. Check to make sure the article is properly formatted: Is the spacing the same as the essay example on the right? Is the first sentence of each paragraph indented? Is the font size correct? 3. Make sure that you have used and listed at least one source.

10. Save & Upload Your Article

The assignment must be uploaded in the course for you to get credit. Click the yellow plus sign below for steps on how to save a file and upload a file.
