BIBLIOGRAPHY

Miguel Primo de Rivera's government was a military dictatorship supported by King Alfonso XIII. He centralized power, suspended the constitution, and ruled by decree. His regime focused on economic modernization through public works projects like roads and railways, and protected national industries with tariffs. He suppressed political opposition with strict censorship and banned parties and unions. Initially, he had public support for restoring order and improving the economy, but this faded due to economic problems and dissatisfaction. His government ended in 1930, leading to the establishment of the Second Spanish Republic in 1931.

During Miguel Primo de Rivera's dictatorship, business people experienced both benefits and challenges. At first, they benefited from government projects like building roads and railways, which helped the economy. The government also protected local industries from foreign competition, which was good for Spanish businesses. However, there were strict controls, and political freedoms were limited, which made it hard for business people to express their opinions. As the global economy worsened with the Great Depression, many businesses struggled, and the support for the dictatorship declined.

Miguel Primo de Rivera's government declined because of several reasons. The global economic downturn and Great Depression caused economic problems in Spain, leading to high unemployment and public discontent. Over time, people grew frustrated with the lack of political freedom and censorship. Political opposition from various groups increased, and even the military, which initially supported him, became unhappy. Primo de Rivera also lost the support of key social and political sectors, including the king.

The dictatorship of Miguel Primo de Rivera, which ruled Spain from 1923 to 1930, was initially successful because it promised to restore order and stability during a time of significant political and social chaos. It had the support of King Alfonso XIII and was well-received by various groups, including business leaders and some workers, as his government focused on improving the economy through large infrastructure projects and protecting national industries. Additionally, Primo de Rivera strictly controlled any opposition through censorship and repression, maintaining an appearance of calm and order. However, this initial acceptance eventually faded.
