>The 3 documents that I like
We Are UVA: A UVA Hype Video
1.The video "We Are UVA: A UVA Hype Video" on YouTube is likely a promotional video celebrating the spirit and identity of the University of Virginia (UVA). It showcases various aspects of student life, academic and athletic achievements, and the overall atmosphere on campus. The goal is to inspire excitement and pride in the institution and share its unique vibe with viewers. This video was published on December 21, 2016 and I really appreciated it because I think it really shows us student life well.I think this video represents the issue well: What does it mean to be an American student today? Because it really illustrates the daily life of students
Five figure student loan debt
2.This image can be considered a cartoon and it was published in 2006 by Jeff Parker. Source is: caglecartoons.com. I appreciated this cartoon because it clearly shows the difficulties students have with debt and it represents the problem well because it represents the possible problems that students can encounter.
Admissions committee
3.This image is also a cartoon and has no publication date. the author is bramhall and there is no source either. I really liked this cartoon because it well represents the complicated task of admissions and therefore ties in well with the problem: What does it mean to be an American college student today?
>The 3 documents that I don't like
A day in the life of a harvard student
1.This text is a testimony from a Harvard student (Raphaelle Soffe) about her daily life at university published in 2017 by the site: timeshighereducation.com. I didn't really like this testimony because it can scare high school students from the daily difficulties of university, but despite everything, I find that it represents the problem well: What does it mean to be an American college student today?
discrimination of races and different ethnicities during admissions
2.This document is a graph that represents the people for and against taking into account certain criteria against race or ethnic origin during university admissions. This chart was published between March 27 and April 2, 2023 by: Survey of U.S. adults conducted. I didn't really like this graphic because there is a percentage of people who are not sure and I find that it is not very representative but I find that this graph still has a link with the problem:What does it mean to be an American college student today? because it can recall discrimination during admission
Five figure student loan debt
3.This document is an article published on March 13, 2019 by Tom Winter and Minyvonne Burke. I didn't like this document very much because I find that it strays a lot from the problem and I don't like the subject studied within it very much.
>The 2 documents I chose
Student LOans debt
1.I decided to choose this image of the map of the United States with the average debt per college graduate in each state. This image was published in 2016 by: The student loan report. I really liked this graph because I find that it allows us to see where the highest average debt is across the United States. and I also find that it represents the problem well because this graph shows that in student life we must not forget the negative sides such as loans or debts
between loans and studies
2.I chose this image which represents a scale with on one side the loans which are represented and on the other, student life and studies. I really liked this image because I think it represents student life well by reminding us not to neglect student loans which take an important place in the life of a student which therefore brings us back to our problem: What does it mean to be an American college student today?
Conclusion
Being an American college student today involves navigating a unique set of challenges, particularly concerning student debt and loans. It means striving for higher education despite financial burdens that can impact future prospects. However, it also represents resilience and determination in pursuing dreams and opportunities. College students today are not just learners; they are navigating a complex financial landscape, aiming to secure their futures while contributing to society. Despite the hurdles, being an American college student signifies hope, growth, and the pursuit of knowledge amid financial realities.
