Indefinite articles: a/an
We use 'a/an': -When we first mention something: (e.g.) I saw an old woman and a dog in the park. -Before job titles: (e.g.) Paula is a teacher. -For descriptions: (e.g.) Paris is an interesting city.
We use 'the': -When we mention something again: (e.g.) I saw a man and a dog. The man was old.. -For specific things: (e.g.) The Canadian children are in the garden. -For a unique thing: (e.g.) The moon looks beautiful today. -For common places: (e.g.) We are going to the park. -For superlatives: (e.g.) She is the best student in the class. -For musical instruments: (e.g.) My daughter plays the violin.

We use 'no article': -For things in general: (e.g.) I don't like children.. -For meals: (e.g.) What time do you have breakfast? -For years, months and days: (e.g.) 2005 was a great year. -For TV: (e.g.) There is a good movie on TV. -For languages, schools, subjects: (e.g.) He doesn't speak English. I study biology. -For time references (next, last): (e.g.) We went to the theater last week. -For non-count nouns: (e.g.) He likes coffee.
