    • Walk students through a day in the life of a middle schooler
    • Show sample schedules
    • Discuss lockers and combinations
    • Answer questions from 5th graders

Information

  • Students will spend the day at YMCA's Camp Sloper
  • They will be meeting other 5th graders from the district who are going to JFK
  • They will be participating in a variety of fun activities to meet new people and discuss middle school
  • All students will need a bagged lunch for this day
  • Sweatshirts are recommended for the morning (we will be outdoors all day
  • Please apply sunscreen and/or bug repellent at home only
  • This is a full day event
  • Students should arrive at Oshana at the normal time
  • Buses will leave around 9 am
  • We will return to Oshana before 3:00
  • We will have a normal dismissal

Information

  • Students will sit in the auditorium and hear a brief presentation before being given a tour of the school
  • The tour of JFK will be given by an 8th grader
  • Students will be shown around the hallways. They'll see academic classrooms, specials areas, the cafeteria etc.
  • **It is important to note that JFK will also announce days in the summer for families to come take a tour**
  • We will leave first thing in the morning (around 8:45)
  • We will be back for lunch

Information

  • Students will be hearing presentations about growth and development
  • These presentations focus on puberty
  • Boys and girls will be split into 2 different classroomsThe boys will be meeting with Mr. Musto, our P.E. teacher and Mr. Dwyer, one of our 4th grade teachers
  • The girls will meet with Mrs. Chavez, Mrs. Sullivan and Mrs. Muroski, our school nurse

  • This will happen in school at the end of the day, around 2:00, following our JFK tour
  • It will last until dismissal
  • Dismissal will be normal

Information

  • Volunteer forms will be going home on Friday, May 3rd
    • Dunk tank volunteers and station volunteers needed
    • Please make sure you're available for both the scheduled day and the rain date
  • All 5th graders should wear their end of year OES signature T-shirt that they will recieve soon. It will act as our "team color"
  • Lunch:
    • Hot lunch provided by the cafeteria: Hamburger, Cheeseburger or Hot Dog
    • Students are free to bring a bagged cold lunch if they prefer
  • May 30th: Grades 3-5: 12:45-3:00
  • Rain Date: Friday, May 31st

Information

  • Students should not bring their regular backpack. A drawstring backpack to carry a bagged lunch, water and other necesseties should be fine.
  • If applying sunscreen, please have your child do this at home prior to the trip
  • All students need a bagged lunch. They will not have the opportunity to purchase a lunch in Newport.
  • Money for small souvenires or snacks is completely fine
  • Cell phone policy on the trip is the same as it is in school. Students who have phones must keep them off or on silent in their bag, and they are responsible for them at all times.
  • Bus will be departing Oshana at 7:00 sharp
  • We should arrive in Newport around 9:00
  • We are hoping to be back in Plantsville by 5:30

  • At Oshana- on the blacktop
  • 70's themed party
  • Food: Pizza and Ice Cream
  • Activities: DJ, Photo Booth, Yearbook Signing
  • Parents vs. Students Kickball Game
  • Students: Wear your tie dye shirts
  • This is an after school event hosted by the 5th grade planning committee comitee
  • 5:30 - 8:00 pm

Information

  • Students will have a graduation ceremony
  • Mrs. Rogala will say a few words
  • Mrs. Sullivan and Mrs. Chavez will announce the names of each student in their classes and present them with a certificate
  • Awards will also be given out to students for academic performance, growth and citizenship
  • The last day of school is June 13th
  • The recognition ceremony will take place at 9:15
  • The ceremony should last about an hour
  • Location: TBD
