Visualizing a change: The impact of african Americans in bexar county
San fernando baptismal records 1790-1820
African Americans have had a significant influence on Bexar County's history and culture since the county's founding as a border region and its expansion into a major city. Since the Spanish Colonial Era, when they arrived in Bexar County as both free people and slaves, African Americans have been part of the community. After independence, these groups expanded and made labor and agriculture contributions to the local economy. African Americans in Bexar County fought for equal treatment and civil rights throughout the 20th century, especially during the integration initiatives of the 1950s and 1960s. As. result, racial harmony and possibilities increased as public spaces and schools gradually integrated. The African American community in Bexar County has endured and expanded in spite of historical obstacles adding to the county's socioeconomic and cultural landscape.
