San Antonio de Béxar was racially diverse in the 18th century
Early Béxar records showed numerous African-ancestry individuals, but few enslaved people. Béxar had 15 slaves in 1777, less than 1% of its 2,060 inhabitants. No cash crop or other economic activity in Béxar used forced labor.
