History of the Maldives
Colonized by the British Commonwealth in the 17th century, the Maldives left the organization in October 2016 under the previous government for political reasons. In 1965 the country finally became independent, and the Maldives came under British protectorate for almost a century. President Solih, in power since November 2018, had submitted an application to "reattach" to the country on December 6, 2018.
The Maldive Islands are located more than 500 kilometers from the mainland, around 600 kilometers southwest of India, 800 kilometers from Sri Lanka and more than 2,000 kilometers east of the Seychelles.
The Maldives, also known as the "atolls", have a population of over 360,000.

Maldivians respect the pillars of the Muslim religion, with five daily prayers, Ramadan fasting, pilgrimage to Mecca if possible... Islam is practiced by almost all inhabitants.
The main religion in the Maldives is Islam, practiced since the 12th century.
All Maldivians are faithful believers, and foreigners are not allowed to marry a local without first converting to Islam.
Maldives flag and history
The crescent is the symbol of Islam and the green background represents prosperity and peace. Red, the symbol of the Maldives, is also a representation of the blood shed during the struggle for independence.
Advantages
The Maldives is a "dream" country thanks to its impressive biodiversity and its location in the Indian OCEAN.
Disadvantages
The Maldives are highly vulnerable to climate change and tides, but are also located in an active seismic zone and are prone to earthquakes and tsunamis.
