Use:
It is used to talk about: 1. An action that started in the past and is still relevant in the present 2. An action that happened a number of times up to the present. 3.An action that started in the past and continues to the present, often with stative verbs (used with How long, for or since) 4. Recent actions (used with just).
- Expressions of time used with the present perfect:
- Yet: means ya in interrogative sentences and todavía negative sentences. It is written at the end of the sentence:
Have you finished yet? / I haven't finished yet.
- Already: means ya and it is used in affirmative sentences: She has already arrived home.
- Expressions of time used with the present perfect:
- Just: means acabar de. It is used in all type of sentences:
Have you just arrived? / She has just left.
How long have you studied English? I have studied English for five years.
- Expressions of time used with the present perfect:
- Ever: means alguna vez in interrogative sentences.
Have you ever travelled to London?
- For: to talk about periods of time.
She has lived in London for ages/ for one year/ for a week/ for eight months.
- Since: to talk about when an action has happened:
They have worked at this school since 1997/ 5th May/ she finished university/ since yesterday/ since June.
