Let's investigate! Famous Spanish painters who have painted trees

Discussion: A discussion starts in the class:

  • How many Spanish painters and artists do you know?
Brainstorming: We decided that we know the ones worked in our eTwinning project: Miró and Dalí but also they know Picasso and Antoni Gaudí. We also decided Frida Kahlo is not from Spain. Let's investigate: In teams: Did these famous artists painted trees? Using tablets the teams investigate and they draw different trees inspired in this famous artists.

  • He loved to create art that looked like dreams (surreal and imaginative paintings)
  • His paintings often included strange objects and unusual landscapes (like melting clocks )

Learning about Pablo Picasso

  • Pablo Picasso was a Catalan and Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist and stage designer.
  • He said "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up."
  • He loved to experiment with shapes, colors, and textures in his artwork.
Our 1st graders did not hesitate to make an improvised tree. As Picasso said: "Every child is an artist"

  • He painted trees in different styles:
    • In "Tree" we can see a young Picasso still developing his artistic style with trees.
    • In "olive trees" or "Bird on a tree" we can see Cubism style with geometric shapes and multiple perspectives

  • He observed the nature and found inspiration for his work in the organic shapes and forms he saw in nature

Learning about: Antoni Gaudí

  • Gaudi's masterpiece is "the Sagrada Familia", a big cathedral still under construction in the center of Barcelona, Spain. It's the most famous monument in Barcelona.
  • Gaudí took inspiration from nature, inside Sagrada Familia he created a magic STONE FOREST playing with the columns in the shape of tree trunks. It's like walking through a forest with a kaleidoscope of colorful lights and shadows...
