Engaging your students in crafting a code of ethics for generative AI use can significantly enhance their commitment to these standards. For this purpose, we suggest utilizing Activity 3 from Facing History & Ourselves. In this lesson, students will develop norms for responsible AI use within the classroom. Along with the reflection questions provided by Facing History & Ourselves, we've included additional ones below to deepen the discussion.
Purpose and Value:
- What do you believe is the purpose of using generative AI in our classroom?
- How can generative AI add value to our learning experiences?
Ethical Considerations:
- What ethical considerations should we keep in mind when using generative AI?
- How can we ensure that our use of AI respects the rights and dignity of others?
Accountability:
- How should we be held accountable for the ways we use generative AI?
- What should be done if someone uses AI in a way that harms or disadvantages others?
