Esistono due realtà: una è l'esistenza che conduciamo ogni giorno, l'altra è nascosta. Neo vuole scoprire la verità su Matrix, mondo virtuale elaborato al computer creato per tenere sotto controllo le persone. Morpheus potrebbe aiutarlo.

Matrix è un film di fantascienza del 1999. Il protagonista di questo film è Neo, un programmatore di computer, che scopre che la realtà in cui vive è una simulazione creata dalle macchine e dai calcolatori che hanno preso il controllo del mondo reale. Gli uomini vengono imprigionati e immobilizzati dalla nascita e la loro vita è solamente un'allucinazione indotta dalle macchine. Questa simulazione si riconduce all'allegoria della caverna di Platone.

Il film quindi riporta in modo moderno il significato del dualismo platonico, l'opposizione tra apparenza e realtà. I contatti che portano Neo alla realtà sono Morphius e la sua squadra, convinti che il protagonista sia l'Eletto, in grado di finire la guerra contro le macchine.

Thomas Anderson è il suo vero nome, lui usa Neo solo quando cerca di scoprire chi è Matrix, vivendo così due vite

il significato di questo video porta all'allegoria del filosofo che, quando esce dalla caverna e scopre il vero mondo, è indeciso se rimanere là fuori oppure rientrare nella caverna dai suoi compagni.Inoltre anche la citazione di Neo ''non credo nel destino perchè non mi piace l'idea di non poter gestire la mia vita'' è molto ironica essendo che lui sta vivendo in una simulazione a sua insaputa.

Come il filosofo della caverna anche Neo, nel momento di uscire dalla prigione, è accecato dalla luce della verità e vorrebbe tornare indietro; questo dimostra che accettare la realtà, è una cosa talmente difficile che non è fattibile per tutti gli uomini.

Matrix, oltre al significato filosofico, aggiunge quello della potenza tecnologica. Il corpo di Neo è infatti imprigionato dalle macchine, ma lui vive in una perfetta simulazione della vita reale. Questo è un significato molto attuale, per intendere che i media stanno riuscendo a distrarre e persuadere gli spettatori; quindi noi siamo schiavi delle macchine è quello che consideriamo essere la realtà è solamente un'illusione digitale. Matrix ci porta da Platone alla modernità, spiegandoci la fragilità dell'esperienza umana e l'ambiguità di un mondo illusorio controllato da delle macchine.
