Austism Spectrum Disorder

Autism is a somwehat common develpomental disorder, it is among one the of the fastest growing develpmental disability diganoses in the United States. Recent estimates from the Center of DIsease Control indicated that 1 in 68 children are currently diagnosed with Austism Spectrum Disorder(ASD).

The average age for a disgnoses of ASD is 5 years of age, however general behavoiral aymptoms are sometimes noted much earlier. You are born with autism, it is not something that is caused by parenting or other external factors, and there is not a cure, there is nothing to be ashamed of.

Girls VS Boys

  • It has been estimated that boys are four times more likely to be diagnosed with autism than girls
  • ASD samples have been predominatley male, so the current
  • understandings of ASD and behavioral crieterian used to diagnose ASD are moslty biased towards males.
  • Despite demonstrating similar levels of autistic symptoms girls are less likley to be diagnosed with ASD.
  • Findings suggest that girls with ASD show similar or heightened levels of social-communication difficulties compared to boyd, but less repetative and restricted behaviors.
