A Quiz about Pig Bellies

TRUTH or LIE

How to construct a proper diet for an ESA Pig By: Madison Smith

Question 1/5

Some common "small-breed" pigs, which have become very popular pets in recent years, include the Vietnamese pot-bellied, the Kune Kune, the Juliana, and the Göttingen mini pig. These pigs may have been bred for a smaller structure, compared to your normal market pig. However, they don't remain small for very long. They can reach between 75 to 200lbs when healthy and happy.

You were correct! Unfortunately, a "Mini Pig" will not stay Mini forever...

Question 2/5

Pigs ARE omnivores that enjoy eating just about anything. But, weight control is important for pigs. Their nutritional health can influence their lifespan. Diet options include:

  • A raw, all-natural diet - not including commercial feed.
  • A commercial feed-based diet, which meets all the nutritional requirements for a "mini" pig
  • Or a mixed diet of commercial feed with all-natural snacks and supplements

A healthy diet is essential for a healthy pig!

Question 3/5

A pig's activity level, life stage (juvenile vs. adult, vs gerietric) and body weight heavily influence thier diet and food intake. Since they are still growing, juveniles (< 4 months old) do have the highest protein requirement. Adult's protein requirement will drop to a mid-level protein requirement. Then, a geriatric pg will require the lowest amount of protein in their diet.

That pig is how old ?!?!

Question 4/5

The most common nutritional disease of pigs is obesity. Similar to market pigs, mini pigs can easily gain excess weight. Never feed your mini pig commercial feed designed for a market pig. Nutritional deficiencies are not a big concern in pigs fed a well-balanced diet. Vitamin E and selenium are the most important minerals required by pigs. However, if your pig is given fed designed for mini pigs; then deficiencies of these minerals are of little concern.

What is the biggest dietary concern?

Question 5/5

Pigs require a good amount of calories to maintain their appropriate energy level. Pigs love to forage, so providing foraging toys is a good enrichment activity to maintain a pig's mental health. Lastly, every mini pig owner should be familiar with the American Mini Pig Association's body condition score chart. This is a good tool to monitor a pig's weight and fitness level, so if dietary changes need to be made, they can be identified and addessed.

A well fed pig is a HAPPY PIG!

End of the quiz!
