1.- Listen and fill in the gaps with these expressions: Korea/ huge/USA/ honeybees/ very painful/Canada/ as scary as/Japan Few insects are ______________________ the Asian giant hornet. They live in Japan and ____________ but are moving to the USA and ______________. The hornets kill around 40 people a year in Japan. They also kill __________________. A few dozen hornets can kill 30,000 bees in a few hours. Authorities in Washington on the west coast of the __________have warned people to be careful of the hornets. Beekeepers are worried about their bees.
The hornets are about five centimeters long. A bee breeder said: "They're like something out of a monster cartoon with this _____________ yellow-orange face." The hornet's sting is ______________. A beekeeper said it is "like having red-hot thumbtacks driven into [your] flesh". The hornet's stinger can go through the clothes beekeepers wear. In groups of 3, we are going to create a Brochure to inform people in genially or Canva. The information in the brochure has to contain:
- A TITLE: e.g. "Have you seen me?"
- What is an Asian Hornet?
- How can you differentiate it from other insects?
- What can you do if you see a hive?
- What must you do if one bites you?
- How can you fight against them?
- What can you do to stop their proliferation?
- Extra information about problems with the local fauna: e.g. What I can do if I find an injured animal/ or a nest of seagulls on my roof.
Add photos or pictures. We will share with class.
