Towards a bright future

In Slovenia, the future of maintaining an education system respecting fundamental human rights for both natives and foreigners will confront issues such as:

  • inclusive access,
  • combating discrimination,
  • and integrating technological innovations,
Future offers opportunity to cultivate diverse communities and empower individuals from all backgrounds to thrive and contribute to societal advancement.

Helping each ohter

Before the guidelines and strategies even existed, mutual assistance in integrating foreigners in Slovenia relied on informal initiatives from local communities, offering support in:

  • language learning,
  • job search,
  • housing, and
  • social integration,
  • other tailored assistance.

National Migrant Integration - Slovenia

According to statistics from the Statistical Office, as of the first quarter of 2024, there were more than 200.000 foreign citizens living in Slovenia, comprising approx. 9% of the total population.

  • Slovenian, migration, and foreign resident statistics fluctuate over time due to various factors such as economic conditions, political changes, and international conflicts.
  • Nowadays there is also a large number of Ukrainian refugees (approximately 9,000 had valid temporary protection status in Slovenia).

  • addressing unauthorized immigration,
  • promoting employment immigration while ensuring security and cooperation.

Identifiying key chalenges in the inclusion process

Strategy for the integration of migrant children in the educational system describes the concept of Inclusion, international documents and practises from abroad.

Identified challenges:

  • inadequate legal frameworks,
  • deficient integration strategies,
  • limited language support, and
  • lack of involvement of migrant families.
