Local Problems Relating to Zero Hunger

• Approximately 15% of Kentuckians are food insecure in their homes
• 1 in 8 Kentuckians face hunger
• At 14.7 percent, food-insecure families are more common in Kentucky than the national average

Understand and Interpret the Goal: Zero Hunger

Global Goal 2: Zero Hunger

A Google form was distributed to 34 people to gain insight into their knowledge about the following:

• How important is food waste
• If they believe food waste is a problem
• What they do with extra foods
• If eating quality food is affordable

Results from the Survey

• There was a diverse age range take the survey, with the most prominent age groups being 18- 27 (38.2%) and 44-59 (29.4%). I also had 28-43 (8.8%), 60-69 (8.8%), 70-78 (8.8%), and 79-96 (5.9%)
• There was awareness of food insecurity and how it can cause health concerns (76.5%), however, more people were not aware of the issue than expected (23.5%)
• Most people are aware of the current food waste problem in the United States (94.1%), though when asked what they do with extra food there was an overwhelming response that they throw it away (58.8%)
