Joshua Tree National Parks iconic structures were made when the dense Farallon plate and the Continental plate converged leaving the Farallon plate subducted the heat below went and created bubbles that rose into the Continental plate. Which caused chambers of magma to form. The magma chambers broke and caused them to break pieces of rock. Around a million years later it cooled into rock. The stone cracked under pressure.Since then the ground over it had been eroding away leaving the broken pieces of rock for everyone to see.
