Language through learning

Language of learning

Language for learning

This type of language is more general and refers to the language skills and strategies required for effective learning.
This refers to the language that emerges naturally through the process of learning the subject content.
This refers to the language needed to acquire new knowledge and skills related to the subject content.

Content

Refers to the subject matter or topic being taught, such as science, history, geography, or mathematics. In CLIL, the content is the driving force, and language is used as a medium to learn and communicate about the content.

Communication

Involves using the target language (the language being learned) to convey meaning and interact with others about the content. In CLIL, learners are encouraged to use the target language for various communicative purposes, such as discussing, presenting, writing, or debating about the subject matter.

Culture

Cognition

CLIL lessons often incorporate cultural elements, such as traditions, values, beliefs, and practices, to provide a deeper understanding of the subject matter and language within a cultural context.
Refers to the cognitive processes and thinking skills involved in learning the content and language. CLIL lessons should promote higher-order thinking skills, such as analyzing, evaluating, creating, and problem-solving, as learners engage with the subject matter and use the target language.

Is an approach to teaching that combines the learning of subject content with the acquisition of a foreign language.
