It is a hemaphrodite, meaning it has both male and female reproductive organs situated on its right side. The animals position themselves side-by-side in opposite directions during mating.

Mudskippers (type of Goby) specifically have adapted to be able to stay out of the water for periods of time. Their large pectoral fins are shaped like legs to help them move. They can also breathe through their skin like amphibians using a method called cutaneous breathing.
