What is being done?

Climate Change in Lanyu

Throughout a lot of Miami, tourism and parking expenses have been raised so as to lower the amount of visitors who litter and dirty the surrounding area. In terms of light and gas pollution, there are laws being put into place to combat the rapid production of these pollutants.

Over the years the turtle population in Lanyu have focused their nesting spots into a select few areas along the coast, which have all been mostly developed. With recent high temperatures, constant storm-like conditions, and the light pollution, many turtles either don't make their way back to the shore, or out of it.

Data taken based on the beaches of South Florida from Miami Beach, to as south as the Florida Keys.

Another area suffering from light pollution and tourism is the Lanyu Island in Taiwan. Most of the sea turtle population is situated right next to developed areas, like factories and residential areas, and the surrounding light and air pollution makes it increasingly difficult for them to reproduce and survive each year.

Globally, sea-levels have been rising, marine wildlife has either gone out of control or is very scarce in some regions, and the ecosystem is in shambles. If more and more species begin to lose their habitats like these turtles, it is a quick way to ensure the extinction of a species.

Throughout the coasts of Miami, climate change has had impacts throghout most of Florida. Average temperatures throughout the state have been raised, prices have skyrocketed, and the hottest temperatures have continued rather than slowed down.
