Similarities to New Orleans, la and houston, tX
Since New Orleans, Louisiana is also below sea level and on a coast, it faces many of the same dangers that come with rising sea levels. People living there will most likely need to move to surrounding areas with higher elevations. This flow of people could put a strain on the resources, such as fresh water, facilities, and residents of towns in the city's direct vicinity. Houston, Texas is also on a coast like Amsterdam. In a similar way to the Netherlands, much of the land in Texas is used for agriculture. The food in both of these places is exported across the world. Rising sea levels could permanently destroy farmland and decrease the food supply for millions of people.
AmsterdamClimate Change
Current Impact
The vast majority of the Netherlands will be flooded if sea levels continue to rise at this rate. Major city centers like Amsterdam will face extreme damage.
Amterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, famously has an elevation below sea level at approximately -2 meters. Since Amsterdam is also a coastal city, it is extremely susceptible to flooding due to rising sea levels as a result of global warming. Weather patterns are becoming more severe. Wetter conditions in the winter and stronger precipitation in the summer. This increases the risk of flooding in the area. The sewer system and nearby rivers and canals are not capable of keeping up with this considerable increase.Droughts have also become more common.

Solutions
Currently, Amsterdam has strategies in place to prevent some of the effects of climate change. Barriers, dams, and pumps powered by wind keep city streets free of water and help canals maintain the proper amount of water. Analysts predict that these measures will need to be improved over time. Plans for floating structures have also been proposed.
